The Emmes Corporation (2013-2015)
My work at The Emmes Corporation has focused on data management and protocol development and management for domestic and international malaria studies. I have contributed to protocol design, data collection form design for both paper and electronic data capture (EDC) forms, database creation and management, and assurance of data integrity. I have also contributed creation and validation of annual IND reports and Clinical Study Reports that have been submitted to National Library of Medicine and FDA. Emmes is also leading the way in creating CDISC compliant data systems. As part of this effort I have participated in the design and implementation of data collection tools that comply with CDISC and SDTM standards.
Anoka County Empowering Bystanders Grant (2012 – 2013)
Working with staff from Anoka County, Minnesota, Coon Rapids High School, and Centennial High School I had the pleasure of helping advise a talented team in the evaluation of an intervention designed to increase bystander awareness of bullying and measure the power bystanders have to prevent bullying when it occurs. The curriculum used for the intervention was provided by the Bystander Grant Committee. The evaluation I developed used the Bystander Model (developed by Christina Salmivalli and colleagues) to measure the correlation between exposure to the intervention and changes in norms and attitudes among the student body.
American Institutes for Research (2012)
I spent the summer of 2012 working as an intern at AIR, in the Silver Spring, MD Health Programs office. Working with the National Heart, Blood and Lung Institute, I was part of a team that conducted key informant interviews to help shape and disseminate national guidelines for the treatment of Sickle Sell Disease. With partners from the CDC we conducted focus groups to test various messages as part of a campaign to reduce Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. As part of both projects, I compiled and analyzed qualitative data, and assisted in literature reviews of journal articles and environmental scans to find best practices and proven techniques for improving healthcare outcomes.
African Sky (2011-2013)
African Sky is a non-profit working to enhance sustainable living and learning opportunities in rural Mali. I had the privilege of helping African Sky compile and analyze quantitative assessment data, and had the honor of representing African Sky at the Inaugural International Research Conference at the University of Minnesota in the spring of 2012. This work resulted in two published research papers in the Journal of Global Health Perspectives.
Medtronic, Inc (2007-2011)
Over four years I had the opportunity to learn about the many challenges medical providers face in the current healthcare climate. For two and a half years I worked with patients, physicians, nurses, and insurance providers to help provide coverage of needed medical equipment for patients with diabetes. I also worked across multiple departments within Medtronic Diabetes, and with industry partners, to help design and implement a division-wide internal software roll-out. As part of the Sales Training team, I also helped develop and deliver a software training curriculum to over 300 employees.
Grassroots Campaigns, Inc. (2004-2005)
During the 2004 election cycle I worked as a direct canvassing fundraiser for GCI clients, and in 2005 was promoted to the position of Assistant Director in the Madison, WI Field Office. Our team worked with a variety of passionate individuals on state and national-level political and issue-based fundraising campaigns. One of my final efforts with GCI was coordinating a fundraising concert in Madison that brought together local activists, media personalities, and local artists.
